How CrochetPatternFinder works

This page outlines how we test products, cite sources, and keep shopping fields current. When we use affiliate links, we may earn a commission; that does not change the price you pay. See the affiliate disclosure and contact us if you spot something that looks out of date.

Our review process

  • Step 1

We crochet every pattern we review from start to finish — no review based on screenshots or designer copy.

  • Step 2

Each review notes skill level honestly (beginner / advanced beginner / intermediate / advanced) using craft-yarn-council standards, not the designer's claim.

  • Step 3

Yarn substitutions are tested on at least one alternate skein and reviewed for gauge match, hand, and color stability.

  • Step 4

Hook recommendations are based on the actual finished fabric — drape, stitch definition, hand fatigue — not on the designer's first choice.

  • Step 5

Designer relationships are disclosed; if we received a free pattern from a designer we mark it on the post and don't change the verdict because of it.

  • Step 6

Reader fixes for tricky rows are credited and folded back into the post so the next crocheter doesn't hit the same wall.
